about us

The University of Edinburgh Greek Dance Group was formed in September 2004 and came together thanks to a small group of friends who shared a passion for traditional Greek dancing. It has grown and matured since, to become one of the most active Dance groups of Edinburgh University and certainly the most vibrant group of the Hellenic Society. The aim of the group is to promote traditional Greek dances and music to Greeks and Greek-enthusiasts of Edinburgh and, more ambitiously, of Scotland. The Group also maintains to a free access e-library, with collection of material relevant to Greek dances. The Group operates thanks to the voluntary contribution and enthusiasm of all its members and its professional dance instructors Stelios Psycharakis, Valeria Skafida and Claire Kydonaki.

Using dance as a vessel, every week the members and by now friends of the group travel to many different regions of Greece. Classes are on a weekly basis during term time and everyone curious about and interested in Greek dances and culture can join the group. For the current year, classes will run from 7-9pm on Thursdays during term times at Chaplaincy (Room 2, first floor), Bristo Square.
