The University of Edinburgh Greek Dance Group was formed in September 2004. It came together thanks to a small group of friends who shared a
passion for traditional Greek dancing and has grown and matured since. With
its 222 registered members and inner core of 79 active dancers, the Greek
dance group has come to be one of the most active Dance groups of Edinburgh
University and certainly the most vibrant group of the Hellenic Society.
The aim of the group is to promote traditional Greek dances
and music to the Greeks and Greek-enthusiasts of Edinburgh and, more
ambitiously, of Scotland. We strive to create an extensive and accurate
collection of material relevant to Greek dances. Therefore, we maintain an e-library accessible to all our visitors. The group operates thanks to the voluntary
contribution and enthusiasm of all its members and its professional dance
instructors Vicky and Stelios.
Using dance as a vessel, every week the members and by now friends of the group travel to many different regions of Greece. Classes are on a weekly basis during term
time and everyone curious of and interested in
Greek dances and culture can join the group. The next scheduled class is on Tuesday 21st 2010f September 2010, 07:00 pm at Chaplaincy- Room 2,1st floor. The classes are free of charge.
